Search scopes and syntax

Choose where your keywords are matched, then use quotes, OR and the minus sign to build precise searches.

Last updated Oct 27, 2026

The search box in Discover (/app/discover) has scopes that control where your keywords are matched, and it understands a simple web-search style syntax.

Search scopes

Scope What it matches Good for
All Your keywords anywhere in the ad Broad, first-pass searches
Ad text The words in the ad copy Finding hooks, offers and phrases
Brand The advertiser name Pulling up one brand's ads
Domain The landing-page domain Finding ads that point to a specific website

Domain search is an advanced filter, so it is available on Starter and up.

Search syntax

Syntax Example What it does
Quotes "free shipping" Matches the exact phrase
OR serum OR moisturiser Matches either term
Minus sign skincare -men Excludes ads containing the word

You can combine them, for example: "money-back guarantee" OR "risk free" -subscription

Tips for better searches

  1. Start broad, then narrow. Run a simple keyword search with All, then switch to Ad text or add filters once you see what comes back.
  2. Search in the language of the ad. Most ads are from the EU and UK, so try the words a shopper in that market would see, or use the language filter on paid plans.
  3. Use quotes for offers and claims. Phrases such as "buy one get one" work best as exact matches.
  4. Exclude noise. Add a minus word to drop results for a common but unrelated meaning.
  5. Pick a sort that fits. Relevance works well for keyword searches, and newest or longest running give you a different view. See Sorting search results.

Bookmark and share searches

Your search and filters are stored in the page URL, so you can bookmark a search or send the link to a teammate. You can also save it as a saved search and, on paid plans, get email alerts for new matches.

Search limits

Each search counts toward your daily search limit: 15 on Free, 150 on Starter and unlimited on Pro and Agency. The number of result pages you can browse per search is 3 on Free, 25 on Starter and unlimited on Pro and Agency. Daily limits reset at midnight UTC.
