Ad fatigue
The decline in ad performance that happens when the same audience sees the same creative too many times.
Ad fatigue happens when people see the same ad so often that they stop paying attention to it, or start actively ignoring it. Performance gradually weakens: fewer people click, costs rise and conversions drop, even though nothing about the targeting or offer has changed.
Common signs
- Frequency climbing steadily within the same audience.
- Falling CTR and hook rate compared with the ad's first weeks.
- Rising CPC and CPA without a clear change in CPM.
- More negative feedback, such as people hiding the ad.
None of these signs alone proves fatigue. Seasonality, auction competition and changes to your site can produce similar patterns, so look at several metrics together.
How to manage it
- Refresh creative regularly: new hooks, new opening frames or new formats can revive a proven concept.
- Test new ad angles: a different reason to buy can reach people the original message did not.
- Broaden the audience: small audiences fatigue faster because the same people see the ad more often.
- Rotate formats: move a winning idea from static to video, or from video to a carousel.
