☀️ Keeping Our Horses Cool During the Heatwave ☀️ A huge thank you to my amazing grooms for their dedication and hard work during this spell of exceptionally hot weather. Your care and commitment to every horse is truly appreciated. ❤️🐴 At Kenn Pier Stables, our horses’ welfare always comes first. We’re fortunate to have large fields and paddocks with plenty of natural shade from mature trees and established hedgerows, allowing the horses to stay cool and comfortable throughout the day. Every field and paddock has automatic water drinkers, providing a constant supply of fresh, clean water. During extreme heat, an average horse can drink between 50 and 70 litres of water a day, so keeping them well hydrated is essential. Salt licks and mineral blocks are supplied in all fields and paddocks to help replace electrolytes lost through sweating and encourage the horses to drink regularly. Daily, all of our horses are cold hosed, showered and treated to refreshing lavender washes to help keep them cool and comfortable throughout the heatwave. Horses that need a little extra relief from the heat can also come into our cool stone-built stables before returning to their fields. To help protect them from flies and biting insects, all of our horses wear lightweight fly sheets and fly masks, keeping them as comfortable as possible during the hot weather.
