Comment: “bunion” to learn more. One important thing to understand is that we can’t always change bone structure-especially in more advanced cases. But that doesn’t mean nothing can improve. What we can influence is how the foot functions. We can improve how the muscles, joints, and nervous system work together to create a stronger and more efficient position. For some people, that may start with something as simple as wearing toe spacers for short periods and learning what a better foot position actually feels like. From there, the goal is to actively build strength in that position-not rely on external support forever. That means strengthening the intrinsic muscles of the foot, improving control of the arch, learning how to use the big toe again, and restoring a stronger tripod foot. You’d be surprised how difficult these seemingly simple tasks can be for someone who has spent years compensating around a bunion. But the foot is only one piece of the puzzle. The tibia, the hip, the pelvis, and the way the entire body manages load all play a role. If the mechanics above the foot don’t improve, the foot is often forced back into the same compensations. That’s why the goal isn’t just to “fix a bunion.” The goal is to reorganize the entire chain. Better foot mechanics. Better ankle control. Better tibial rotation. Better hip function. Better weight distribution through every step. When all of these pieces start working together, the body can move in a completely different way. I’ve seen incredible transformations over the years. People who thought surgery was their only option. People who couldn’t walk comfortably, exercise, or spend long days on their feet without pain. Many of them regained function, improved their movement, and returned to activities they had given up on. Does it require time, consistency, and attention to detail? Absolutely. But when you start restoring how the body actually moves-not just focusing on the bump itself-the results can be far more significant than most people expect.
