Hundreds of kids attended the 33rd Annual Douglass Community Juneteenth Freedom and Heritage Festival's Youth Day. The focus was the importance of the history of Juneteenth. The event was sponsored by Shelby County Commissioner Henri E. Brooks (District 7) , Chairlady of the Shelby County Board of Commissioners Legislative Black Caucus. . According to Commissioner Brooks, this year's Juneteenth was especially joyful, jubilant, and merry because the pool and splash pad were operative, and there were several different types of 'bounce' interactive gear for jumping, springing and balancing. Additionally, many children enjoyed playing 'Double Dutch rope jumping, face painting, horse drawn carriage rides, youth entertainers and youth talent show." . Commissioner Brooks also stated, "this could not have been possible without the support and partnership of the Shelby County Board of Commissioners Legislative Black Caucus, City of Memphis Community Centers, District 7 Summer Camp Operators, District 7 Summer Camp Coordinators and interns, Jeffrey T.
