Howard University MFA graduate Brandon D. Wilkerson photographed his award-winning graduate thesis film, Somewhere In Brooklyn, using 35mm and 100mm Sirui Venus anamorphic lenses to achieve the widescreen scope, distinctive oval bokeh, and cinematic lens flares commonly associated with feature films. Drawing on more than 13 years of editing experience, Wilkerson crafted every frame and cut with the goal of delivering a level of cinematic polish beyond what audiences typically expect from a graduate thesis production. Committed to creating every image himself, he also piloted and captured the film’s aerial cinematography with his DJI FPV drone, refusing to rely on stock footage. In addition to writing and directing the film, Wilkerson starred in it and served as its editor, overseeing nearly every aspect of its creative vision from production through post-production. The film has since earned multiple festival honors, including the Audience Choice Award at the Diversity in Cannes Short Film Showcase and Best Directorial Debut at the Las Vegas Black Film Festival.
