The day before my wedding,a video leaked. Me. Kidnapped. Assaulted. My fiancécalled it off. Married Marie Benson the next day. In my despair, his younger brother knelt before me. Emeric Jacob. Diamond ring. Larger than hers. "Flora,I have secretly loved you for years. Now I finally have the chance. Will you marry me?" I said yes. He was my savior. Six months later,I went to pick him up from the club. Drunk. Outside his door,I heard him. "Boss, six months ago you had me kidnap her.Ruin her.Leak the videos. Was it wORth it?" Emeric's voice. Tired. "For Marie to marry without trouble, this had to be done.I'll spend my life making it up to Flora." Marie. The woman my ex-fiancémarried. The one Emeric really loved. The bodyguard:"She can't have children.May need a hysterectomy. Her psychological evaluation—" Slap. Glass. "Enough." My savior. Was the devil. Outside the door,my legs buckled. I crumpled to the floor. The man I believed to be my savior was the one who had pushed me off the cliff. I fled like a madwoman. At midNight,Emeric came home. "Flora, are you upset? You were thinking about the past again, weren't you?I'll drive out every demon haunting you—with love." If I hadn't overheard him hours ago,his tenderness would have moved me. Now,all I felt was fear. "Emeric, the doctor said we'll never have children." His body tensed. Disappointment flickered in his eyes before vanishing. "It's okay.As long as it's you.If we can't have a child,I'll spoil you like my own daughter." He kised my forehead and left. I glanced at the invitation from San Mirren University. I drafted my acceptance and boked a flight for three days later. Since that love was never meant for me,I would simply walk away. Next morning,Emeric was gone. Breakfast on the table with a note:Baby,I've gone to the family estatE.I'll stand by you. The cello that always sat in the living room—gone. Cleaning the dust underneath,I noticed a loose tile. I pried it open. A voice recorder. I pressed play. Emeric's hoarse voice over a cello melody. Marie, today is your wedding day.Consider this piece my blessing. She asked me to play again. But I promised you—I would only ever play for you.She doesn't deserve to listen.Marie,I have never once regretted what I did to her.As long as you're happy,I would do anything. So that was why he always refused to play for me. The cello had never been mine. It had always been Marie's. At the family estatE,Belize sneered at me. "A woman tainted by countless men has no dignity.Take the back entrance." Marie rushed forward, all smiles. "Flora,Emeric's cello playing is breathtaking!Let's have him play another piece." Emeric's eyes flickered with resistance. "Let's not.Dinner soon." Even with a third person present,I still wasn't allowed to hear him. At dinner,Belize announced coldly,"You can no longer have children.Find a time to finalize the divorce." Emeric draped his jacket over me. "Mom,Flora is still young.Besides,Marie and my brother will give you a grandson soon." Marie latched onto Belize's arm, blushing. Emeric stared at Marie as he downed his drink, overwhelming sadness in his eyes. After dinner,Belize ordered me to clean the leftovers. "The Jacobs don't support dead weight." Marie asked innocently,"How badly does someone have to ruin themselves to end up unable to have children?Poor Flora." I went upstairs to call Emeric home. Through the cracked guest room door—his voice, raw with anguish. "Marie, when Mom asked us to divorce today,I almost said yes.But if I let you go,my brother might cast you aside. It hurts too much." Emeric was curled against her, sobbing. She held him, then slipped off her coat and kised him. "This is the only way I can make it up to you." The room was consumed by feverish sounds. "I love you—I do this willingly, for you." I fled. I sat in the garden until dawn. The sounds from the guest room never ceased. At sunrise,Marie found me. She yanked down her Nightgown, exposing deep kis marks. "Emeric really finds you disgusting.Did you see how desperate he was?" She grabbed my collar and yanked it down. I shoved her away—and collided with Emeric. Marie stumbled to the ground. He rushed to her. "Marie, what happened?" Tears shimmered in her eyes. "I just wanted to check her wounds. She shoved me away." He turned to me,colder than ever. "Why do you always act like this?Marie has done nothing but try to help." He scooped her up. "I'm taking Marie to the hospital.Drive yourself home." Marie's message popped up. Flora, you're pathetic.Emeric has been by my side all morning. A video attached—him rushing around the hospital, brows furrowed with genuine worry. When I was sick,he always used work as an excuse. Now a simple fall was a crisis. I called a lawyer, signed the divorce papers, and left them in his study with the voice recording from the private suite. I packed everything and shipped it to San Mirren. Emeric called. "Don't be upset about this morning.Stay home.Tomorrow, let's take a trip to Europe." I gave a half-hearted response. Another message from Marie—a video at the concert hall. Emeric on stage with his cello, playing Bach's Air on the G String, gazing at Marie with deep affection. Whispers:Why would he play that for his sister-in-law?His wife is damaged goods.Guess he's had enough. Marie called. "Do you remember six months ago?The men Emeric sent toyed with you for three days.We watched every second, live.During those niGhts,I conceived Emeric's child. With your cries as the soundtrack,he was especially passionate. You'll always be a loser to me." Emeric called again, cheerful. "Meet me at our usual restaurant.Let me take you out." I glanced at my plane ticket, departing in hours. "Sure.I have a gift for you." After I hung up,unease crept over Emeric. Her response was too willing. He rushed to the restaurant. Pierre burst out, pale with panic, thrusting papers and a recorder into the car. "Boss—she's gone.Your wife disappeared. And that Night…she heard everything we said!" Curious to know what happens next?👇
