I hated every holiday photo. That picture on the left was meant to be a happy memory. Beach, sunshine, family around me. But all I could see was my size. I remember holding my phone in front of me, pretending I was just checking messages, because I didn’t want anyone taking proper photos. My arms felt huge, my face looked swollen, and I was sweating through a loose grey T-shirt while everyone else looked comfortable. I’d tried everything by then. Slimming World. Calorie counting. Walking more. Cutting bread. Buying those silly “fat burner” tablets online at 2am when I felt desperate. Nothing stayed off. I’d lose a few pounds, feel hopeful for a minute, then watch it all come back. Usually with extra. After a while you stop believing your body can change at all. The worst part wasn’t even the weight. It was feeling like I’d disappeared inside my own body. Like the woman I used to be was still in there somewhere, but I couldn’t reach her anymore. Then I found something that finally explained why nothing had worked properly before. It wasn’t another diet. It wasn’t “eat less and move more”. It was something I’d genuinely never been told, even after years of asking for help. The photo on the right was taken after I started doing what the article explained. I don’t hide from photos now. I don’t plan outfits around covering every part of myself. And I don’t feel embarrassed just existing in my own skin anymore. If you’re looking at your own holiday photos and feeling that same sick feeling in your stomach, I left what helped me in the first comment.
