For 5 years, I thought he was just too busy. Until I heard him whisper another woman's name in the bathroom at 3 AM. That's when I realized... He never loved me. So I stopped waiting. But when I finally decided to leave, he refused to let me go. “I, Aeliana Hartley of Mooncrest pack, reject you, Alpha Kingston Vale as my mate. I reject all bonds and sever all ties. Accept my rejection.” I snap. “No.” King says, pulling me into him. “I, Alpha Kingston Vale, reject your rejection.” My jaw drops. King used to be my best friend, yet he abandoned me when I needed him most. I barely survived. I ran out of that hell. Then my sister’s wedding dragged me back— and the goddess named King my fated mate. He doesn’t want me. I don't want him. But the bite he left on my neck took away my choice of being marked. Chapter 1 AELIANA Hell is empty, and all the devils are here. I’ve learned to run from mine, the ones that unleashed demons to torment me for the rest of my life, but as I stare at the warning in my hand, I reckon I didn’t run far enough. Not too fast either. [To Aeliana Hartley, With the blessing of their families, Seraphine Paul Hartley & Diego Rollins request the honour of your presence to bear witness to the start of their union. Save the date: February 28th. Venue: Valour Hall] it reads. My name in cursive I don’t understand why I have to be here, I’m pretty sure the bride—my stepsister doesn’t want me there. Sera and I don’t get along, I’d hate to ruin her special day with my presence and besides, going back would mean soaking up waters that once drowned me. That was why I tried to decline, made up every possible excuse to not attend but my father wouldn’t hear it. He wouldn’t want to appear as though he didn’t have a perfect family, but he does. Without me that is. I’m the one who ruins things, the one who should have died in the delivery room, but mom died instead. My heart races when I stepped into the pack. I’m met with many faces, some familiar, others not at all. The pack smells familiar, it smells like memories, both good and bad. So many memories that the air is almost suffocating, I want to turn around and get on the next flight out of here, but I can’t. I swallow down the lump creeping in my throat and remind myself it’s just one day. One ceremony, a few fake smiles for the camera, and then I can leave again. People seem to be having a ball, a few others are drunk outside the hall, others are getting drunk, others are only just now arriving
.like me. My father stands near the entrance, his posture rigid, a cigar between his fingers while he speaks to a man I don’t recognise. I’m thinking of a way to enter without him seeing me, but his eyes find me first, fast and cold. He’s mad. I take a deep breath and walk towards him. “You’re late,” he says. “Flight issues,” I calmly retort. If anything I wished for an emergency landing so I couldn’t come. Father nods, his jaw ticking. “Follow me,” he says. Not bothering to introduce me to his colleague like he always does with my siblings. He doesn’t say a single word, he walks in front of him, and I follow, my heart syncing up with the fast pace of my heels clicking on the floor. People are staring at me, whispering, laughing, I’m getting every dirty look in the book and I know why. But it’s one of those things I’ve decided to live with, the kind that doesn’t matter where I’m at in life now. Father leads me to a crowd of women, I can smell his wife before he turns to look at me. “Be seen.” He orders, walking past them, leaving me with them. “Honey—” Pandora, my stepmother calls out, her smile wide and bright. She must be so proud of her little girl Sera. This venue is expensive, and the wedding package they offer is just as expensive. “Oh, she came.” I lift my hand to wave, but she pulls me into a tight hug. “Hello, Liana baby.” she kisses my cheek. “Lovely of you to join us.” “Liana?” Mrs Thorne gasps, “As in Aeliana? Freya’s little girl?” Mom Pandora nods, “Yes that’s her.” “Oh my, you look so different, dear.” Mrs Cole smiles, eyeing me up and down. “How beautiful.” I swallow, “Thank you.” It’s hardly a compliment, she’s called me ugly a few times, and while Pandora stood up for me, she also laughed. “You’re so blessed Pandora, you have such gorgeous children.” Another remarks, one I don’t recognise. “Wow.” Mom laughs, the sound forced and fake. “Oh stop it. This one isn’t even mine, I can’t take credit for her.” Translation: she’s a screw-up but not mine. I’m only the Hartley family’s daughter when it’s convenient and unfortunately for me, that’s once in a never-blue-moon. “Where have you been, little Freya?” Mrs Thorne asks with a smile. My mother’s name is sweet on her tongue, from what I know they used to be good friends. Before I can answer, Mrs Cole chimes in. “Are you mated dear?” She asks, not giving me a chance to speak—just like her daughter. “When is your wedding? Seraphine is merely two years older than you.” “I’m unmated” “If you’d stayed in the pack rather than running off to do lord knows what, you’d have found him by now,” Mom says. Mrs Thorne snickers, “Oh, Pandora. Mates will always find each other, and there’s nothing wrong with the girl, she’s a looker she’s bound to find someone to fall for her.” Mrs Cole rolls her eyes, unbothered by any attempt to hide her hostility towards me. “Beauty is one thing, character is another.” And there it is, the reason I left. Half the pack has seen me naked, seen my shame, seen the pictures but no one asked for my side of the story. To them, there’s nothing words could say any louder than pictures did and that’s okay, I had no words then, I have no words now. Mom nervously laughs, “Aeliana, why don’t you say hi to your sister? It’s her that you’re here for isn’t it?” “Yeah,” I nod, swallowing down my shame. “Excuse me.” “Wait—” Mom calls out, trying to come with me or rather escape the awkwardness and embarrassment my presence just cost our family, again. I give her a small smile and shake my head. She stares for a moment before nodding for me to go ahead. The Valour Hall is large, but finding the bride isn’t exactly hard. Seraphine and her friends are standing at the open bar, giggling and pointing at the guests, as usual. She doesn’t see me, her friend Dalton is the first to see me. Her smile vanishes as she taps my sister’s shoulder. “Sera.” “What?” Sera asks, her eyes shifting when Dalton doesn’t speak. Unlike Dalton, her smile widens. “Oh, would you look who it is, Aeliana.” “Hi sis,” I force the words out. “Congratulations, you look lovely.” Seraphine pouts. “Oh, thank you.” “I must say, I thought you wouldn’t show.” Her friend says, “But here you are, and without a gift.” I frown, she’s gotten bold. Usually, it’s Seraphine’s best friend who speaks to me like that, but I don’t see her anywhere. Audrey and Seraphine are a package deal, could they have had a fall-out? “Rita, it’s fine.” Seraphine stops her, “There’s no need for two gifts I didn’t ask for, her presence is enough.” “I’ll just—” “Wait, come here.” Seraphine blurts out, her lips twitching with a smile. I know that smile, I hate it. It always means something is about to happen, something only her sadistic self finds funny. “You should meet my husband.” She says, snapping her fingers, and walking away. I roll my eyes, walking closely beside her while flashing my best smile for anyone watching, and trust me, everyone is watching the Gamma’s daughter who was caught in one of the very few high school sex scandals. “He’s been dying to see you.” “So, when I meet him, do I say condolences, or would you want me to lie and congratulate him on marrying you?” Sera scoffs, “An invite doesn’t mean show up. You know better than to be here.” She tsks, pausing a few steps away from men in suits surrounding a table. “Bae,” she sweetly calls out. “My sister is here.” A few men turn, none of them the groom but when he finally turns to meet us, my whole world spirals. “Aeliana,” he says. “Long time no see.” No. That voice. He smiles at me, and my stomach coils with disgust, disdain, and discomfort. Everyone is talking but I can’t hear anything, my eyes start to ring. It’s him. The air in my lungs is deflating. I stumble backwards, and everyone’s eyes fall on me. My wolf mumbles something but I don’t hear it, I’m too focused on trying to breathe, to run. Even the hem of my dress feels heavy. My vision is starting to double, I need out. I need— I stumble into something hard, no, someone? Nobody catches me, I fall to the floor, the ringing in my ears is dulled by the embarrassment, and when I try to stand, the worst thing that could have happened tonight spawns on me. “Mate.” My wolf says, “Mine.” My gaze lifts, immediately locking with cold eyes. And for the second time tonight? My whole world comes crumbling down. No. Not him. Chapter 2 KINGSTON My wolf has been restless over the last few days, asking for his mate, and tonight, he made a show of having me walk around in search of a mate that doesn’t exist. I’m past mating age, I was sure I was going to have to choose a mate, and I have though unmarked but she’s my choice. My girlfriend Audrey, had been a ray of sunshine when I needed it most, and the pack adores her very much. Audrey accompanied me out for a smoke, but when we returned inside, my wolf grew even more restless, ecstatic. This is the first of many times it’s happened, and I was going to dismiss it until someone ran straight into me. It wasn’t her fault, I was looking at something Audrey was showing me, but when I look down to apologise, my wolf loses his mind. “Mate,” he chants repeatedly, each time more clear, possessive, claiming. His voice is so loud that it drowns out the music and chatter in the room. “Our mate, Kingston.” “Are you sure? She’s scentless.” I tell him. I can’t smell her but when her gaze lifts, everything changes. The bond hits me like a tidal wave, my chest burns. With anger, shock, and so many emotions I can’t give name to. Aeliana Hartley. She’s not supposed to be here. Not in my territory. Not in my life. Not anywhere close. Her eyes grow wide with a familiar hue of violet that only she has. I can’t believe my eyes. Aeliana disappeared from our lives almost five years ago, and no one has heard from her since and here she is, dressed in gold like the angel that I used to perceive her as. “Mate,” my wolf grumbles. “Claim her.” He snaps. My fists ball, nails digging into my palms as I fight hard to restrain myself. This has to be a joke, maybe my mate is somewhere in this room and not at my feet. Audrey tightens her grip on my arm, but I pull away, stepping closer to Aeliana. She rises, and just like she does when things get hard? She tries to make a run for it, refusing to address what only we two just felt. I grab her arm, and a zap of electricity tremors through my hand. I don’t think she felt it, she’s still staring at me in disbelief. “You felt it, didn’t you?” I ask, not the zap but the bond. That pull was strong, it almost brought me to my knees, and it weakened her for a moment. Aeliana doesn’t speak, she simply watches me, eyes distant, and her chest heaving. She’s high. I’ve heard about this habit of hers, but it’s my first time witnessing it. I’m disgusted, appalled at the moon goddess’s choice for me. “You don’t belong here, you can’t be my mate.” “Let go,” she swallows, her hand trembling. “I’ll make this very easy for both of us, Hartley.” I bite out, refusing to say her name. I haven’t said her name out loud in years but I will have to. Her eyes soften, something flickers in them, but it passes so fast I don’t get to decipher it. “Kingston, please..” she says, I’m unsure of what she’s begging, for but there is no way we could be together. Not in this lifetime. I straighten, I need to end this now. I can’t have her for a mate, or for a Luna, my pack deserves better, and her selfishness won’t ruin it. “I Alpha Kingston Vale of Mooncrest, reject you Aeliana Hartley, as my mate and Luna. I reject all bonds and sever all ties.” I force the words out, pain clawing at my chest. People gasp, whisper, murmur. “Accept my rejection,” I demand, squeezing her wrist tighter. She doesn’t speak, her lips part but nothing comes out. When a tear rolls down her cheek I snap again, “Accept my rejection.” I growl. “I Aeliana Hartley of Mooncrest,” she begins, her voice raw and breaths heaving like she’s running. I squeeze tighter and she chokes out a cry, “I accept your rejec—” “No!” someone interrupts. I let go of Aeliana’s wrist, ready to tear apart whoever dares interrupt. My jaw clenches when I see who it is. My father, Alpha Dante. “What is going on here?” He demands. Someone beats me to it before I can speak. “Aeliana is Kingston’s mate.” The familiar voice says. My younger brother, Damien. “Not for long,” I counter. “I will sever this bond, it’s a mistake. Someone like her could never be my mate, or my pack’s Luna.” “You will do no such thing, King.” Dad snaps, “Aeliana is fated, you can’t reject her.” Fated? Does he hear himself? She’s not fated she’s troubled, she’s not fit to be my mate. “I already rejected her and I will do it again. All she has to do is accept it.” Aeliana’s lip quivers. “I accept your—” “No, Aeliana.” My Dad interrupts yet again, stepping between us. “You can’t reject a bond forged by not only the moon goodness herself, but the fates.” “Father,” I warn. “Aeliana is to be your Luna. If you reject her, you disrupt the order of things, you renounce your right to the pack, Kingston.” He firmly asserts, watching me with a kind of disappointment he reserves for my other siblings. Aeliana lets out a loud gasp, as if starving for air before she runs out. Nobody follows her, everyone is familiar with her dramatics. “Without her, you will not be Alpha, the final handover won’t happen. You can only get my blessing if she’s by your side.” He warns, “Gamma Hartley, a word.” I watch as he walks away and right behind him is Aeliana’s father. People are whispering about what just happened, the public threat my dad bestowed upon me, and how Aeliana ruined Seraphine’s wedding celebration. A hand smooths over my bicep, I look down to find Audrey staring at me. “King,” she chokes out, tears streaming down her cheeks. “What’s happening?” “Go home, Audrey.” I gritt through my teeth, annoyed by the last twenty minutes. “I’ll meet you there.” My dad’s voice reaches me through the pack link, “Conference room fourteen.” That’s all he says. Knowing my dad, he’ll be gone if I’m a second late so I walk fast, pacing my feet in alignment with the thumping sound in my chest. The door to conference room fourteen is slightly ajar, and inside are my mother, father, and Damien. “Dad, I can’t marry Aeliana.” “Why not?” he asks, swirling his liquor. “Are you serious?” I scoff. “Don’t you know—” “If this is about her past incident, she made a mistake, she was young.” he interrupts. But that’s no excuse, she knew better than to act as she did. “What she did is no different from what you’d been doing, except there was no audience. The tape was unfortunate.” “It’s not about the tape,” I groan. Sure, I was disappointed when I learned Aeliana filmed herself getting f^cked by some random man, but that’s her personal business. It’s the way she treated people that unerved me, the way she cut me out of her life like I was nothing, but she was everything to me. “Dad, you don’t know the kind of person that she has turned into, Aeliana is...” “King, calm down.” Mom shakes her head, “You’re getting so pale.” “Mom,” I say with a heavy sigh. Of course, I’m pale, I just saw a ghost from my past and I’m bonded to it. Mom frowns, “You used to love Aeliana, what changed?” Chapter 3 My answer is instant, obvious. “She changed, and the things she did—” “Forget them,” Dad groans, his tone bored. “Aeliana is going to be your Luna. You will marry her, and only her if you desire for the handover to proceed as planned.” My eyes shift to Mom and she nods, of course she’d agree with him. They’re a team, something Aeliana and I can’t be. “Your father is right, you have to marry your true mate, or you’ll curse our bloodline.” “The bloodline will be fine. I’m not the first to reject a mate.” Anger flashes in Dad’s eyes, “You will not reject her.” “I already have,” I argue. He will drop this obsession with true mates, he didn’t think I had a mate until minutes ago. “And that better be the last time you say it, Son. Unless you want to pass on being Alpha.” I scoff. “Don’t you think that’s a bit too far?” I ask, an eyebrow raised. I have worked so hard for this pack, I earned the handover not only because I’m his first or oldest. “I can’t just marry her, I have—” “That lost omega who can’t see left or right without you?” Mom chuckles. I pause. Shocked. She loves Audrey, everyone does. But suddenly Aeliana appears, and she’s degrading her? “No, my love. You will drop her. The girl is sweet, but she doesn’t have what it takes to be Luna.” “And Aeliana does?” I almost laugh. “What does Audrey have to do to become qualified? Is sleeping with random men the—” My cheek flares up. It takes a second for me to realise I’ve been slapped. Damien lowly chuckles when I go silent, touching my cheek. My Mom’s gaze hardens, “If you don’t want her say the word and your father will have one of your brothers be Alpha, but if you want this pack still? You will respect your Luna, Kingston.” Dad rises from his seat with a smirk that says, I had that slap coming the second I disagreed with him. “Come on, my Luna. It’s late.” He says. They leave the room without so much as a goodbye. Aeliana has only been here a few minutes and everything is falling apart. My leg swipes one of the chairs and it hits the little table at my left, breaking the glass vase on top of it. “Wooo,” my brother whistles, nursing a bottle of beer. “Kingston,” He calls out, proceeding to get close despite my silence. “Listen, if you’re so attached to Audrey, keep her as your mistress.” The idiot smirks, “Nobody cares, but is that p^ssy worth passing out on the keys to the kingdom
” “Shut up,” I groan, caressing my temples. I’m trying to soak in the last hour, and he won’t quit talking. “I don’t get it, big bro, you’ve wanted this, and not for the reasons I did. You care about this pack, and you’re just going to give it up? For Audrey?” He sneers, “You’re smarter than that Kingston.” I shoot him a glare. “Don’t shoot the messenger because he’s right.” He smirks, raising his hands in defeat. “Just take my advice, the pack is safer in your hands. I’d ruin it, Callum would f^ck it up. And Rowan could be better but he’s not eligible unless he overthrows our father. Which is highly unlikely, Rowan kisses father ass he can’t challenge him.” He reminds me, his gaze shifting. “Oh, here’s Row now.” “What’s going on?” “Aeliana?” I scoff. “Why her?” “You’ve been obsessed with the girl you were in diapers, you’ve always had eyes for her so what’s the problem now?” Damien asks, once again, unprovoked. “Shut up Damien,” I growl. “Yo Rom, wasn’t he obsessed with her?” “Tread carefully,” Rowan warns him. “Come on,” Damien chuckles. “Are you going to encourage him to give the pack up to be with Audrey just because she’s pretty?” He pauses, and when no one answers him he speaks again. “And have you seen Aeliana yet? The girl grew into her body.” he whistles, the sound ticking me off. “If I weren’t mated or married already then trust, I’d have no problem pursuing her. Those tit’s? They look so sexy, juicy like something crafted for p**n by a skilled surgeon. I bet they’re better when she’s nak—” My fist swings before I can think to stop myself. The collision leaves me with a dull ache in my knuckles. Damien chokes, stumbling. “King!” Rowan warns, rushing to aid my idiot brother. Damien laughs, “Relax, everyone has seen her tit’s although they were smaller back then.” I’m overstimulated, if he mentions Aeliana’s tit’s again I’m going to cripple him. Rowan must read my mind because he shakes his head. “Leave,” he sighs. “You’re drunk, he’s annoyed, this will get bloody fast.” To my surprise, Damien listens but instead of going out the door he pauses and sighs heavily—loud. “All I did was try to be a good brother but f^ck me and discard me like you will be doing with Audrey
” Damien smirk, “Or is it Aeliana you will discard?” He smirks, “Goodnight brother.” He says, slipping away. Between Damien, Dad, and Aeliana, I’m losing my mind. And Audrey. God, what do I do? She’s dedicated her life to me, and the way she looked at me out there
Rowan slaps a hand on my shoulder, “You good man?” “Why her?” I grunt. I’d take a crazy woman over her, although there’s not much difference between the two. Rowan lets a brief chuckle. “Are you surprised? I mean, it’s Aeliana.” “It’s not,” I snap. “The Aeliana we left doesn’t exist anymore Rowan, you know what she did.” “I do,” he nods. “I hate her actions too, but I’m not surprised she’s your mate. Uncle is making you choose between the pack and a Luna of your choice
” he trails off on an unspoken thought. He can’t even find the words. “I know,” I nod. Aeliana is no longer haunting my dreams, she’s here again. ’Tis cruel of my father to make me choose between the pack and a life without Aeliana. “So, what are you going to do?” Chapter 4 AELIANA I should have never come back to Mooncrest. I was having a full-blown panic attack when I stormed out of the hall, and the next thing I knew, a strange woman was looking over me. I fainted. I couldn’t self-regulate so my body shut down, it’s been a while since this has happened to me. I’ve learned and studied methods that keep me sane, safe, and steady but one trip back here and I’m cracking again. Thankfully, the lady who helped me out promised she wouldn’t tell anyone, and I immediately left. Even the parking lot was empty when I started driving out. Tonight was more eventful than I anticipated, not quick or easy. Kingston’s cold stare burns in the back of my mind. I try to think of any sign, any moment at which the bond flickered, and I can’t think of one. Several memories I’ve shared with him hit me. I'm back in my bedroom during the last summer we spent together. King is sitting at the foot of my bed. “Siren?” He softly coos. “Hmm?” “Are you sure about this?” “Yeah,” I nod. I psyched myself up, he is the one who needed convincing. I like King, no one is as nice to me, and I may or may not have a crush on him. “Let me practice with you, I really want this. I want it to be just ours, something we don’t do or share with anyone else.” King laughs, “I can buy us rare trinkets, this..” “It’s okay if you don’t want to. It’s not a big deal,” I shrug. “I know I’m not your type.” “Who is?” “The older girls,” I roll my eyes. Kingston always has women running after him. “Like my cousin Lexie.” King smirks, “She’s only fun when her mouth is full of cock.” “You can’t say that,” I frown. “Lexie is smart, she just gets a little dumb around you because you’re cute.” “And you?” he asks, looking a little too serious now. This was supposed to be fun. “Do you get a little dumb around me?” “Stop it, I’m smart.” “Yes you are.” he nods. “Promise to write when you leave?” “Siren, I don’t leave for another few months.” “Just promise.” I’m pulled away from the memory by my wolf’s humming. “He rejected us, Aeliana,” Lumi says. “I think it’s time to let him go. He’s hurt us enough, nothing could ever cut this deep.” I slam my head against the steering wheel, this feels like an awful joke by fate. Why would I be mated to the boy who made me so many promises and broke them without giving me a second glance? Kingston promised to always write to me when he left for the training academy and at first, he kept his promise until he didn’t. I poured my heart out countless times hoping for a reply, but it never came and when it returned? He pretended I didn’t exist. And he’s doing it again, only this time I want this too. I grab my phone from the passenger seat and drag myself into the house. I’m only halfway through the door when my Father groans in disapproval. “Where were you?” “I was getting some air.” “Sit with us.” Mom smiles, nodding at the sofa. It sounds like a request, but the cold stare from Dad tells me it isn’t. “You’ve always known have you not?” “No, father.” I swallow, settling into the seat I’ve been scolded so many times in. “We were too young before, I didn’t know we had a bond.” “Congratulations,” he says. “You’ve finally done something right. This is your first public non-shameful act. Kingston Vale,” he nods to himself. “Nice.” “I’m surprised, I thought Audrey was a shoo-in for Luna but now?” Mom pauses, pure amusement on her face. “This is great. Anna will be so humbled. I don’t have to kiss up to her in the future, my daughter is going to be the Luna not hers.” Luna. The word unsettles me. Almost as much as the thought of being mated to Kingston does. “I’m not going to be Luna.” “What’s that?” “He rejected my father, in front of everyone,” I say. “It’s merely a matter of time before he comes to reclaim it.” “You will not accept it,” he snaps, “You have to be Luna. It’s not like anyone else is lining up for you, no one this great at least.” “Kingston has a girlfriend,” I swallow. No woman wants a mate that’s obsessed with another woman, much less the woman who made her life hell. “He doesn’t want me.” “If you could charm your way into bed with that boy years ago, you can do it with Kingston now.” “Bryan,” Mom hisses. “You’re scaring her.” “I’m setting her straight,” he argues. “Marrying Kingston is the only way to erase the stain she put on our family name. No one will dare speak ill of their Luna or her father. This will be good for our family.” “Liana baby,” Mom sweetly smiles. “You understand your father do you not?” I nod, “Yes. But I can’t accept him. I don’t belong here anymore, if I never come back to the pack again, everyone will forget I existed. They’ll forget everything that happened.” He rises, “You little—” “Let me handle it,” Mom grabs his arm. “We don’t want him finding her bruised when he comes to get her.” “He won’t be coming for me, Mom. Did that look like a man interested in me?” “Make him,” She sighs. “You always were so good at dog walking him until you chose to be a sl^t and publicise it. Then Audrey took over, but you can reclaim him.” My jaw drops. I’ve never heard her speak like this before, and calling me a sl^t? She didn’t say it once when the video was released. “Mom?” “He has a soft spot for you.” Had. That was years ago. “Alpha Dante will talk to him, he has been set on King marrying his mate, and no one else. His rejection doesn’t matter.” “But dad,” I swallow, my voice low. “I don’t want to be Luna. I want to continue with my master’s and—” “You won’t need that. It’s useless,” he tsks. “Your job is to sit down, listen, and give this pack an heir. That’s the only thing you should be thinking of. Do you understand?” “Yes, Dad.” I swallow. I don’t understand him, I do understand that if I stay here then I’m trapped. I’ve learned easily that the only way to appease my father is by agreeing with his demands. “Good,” he smiles. “I’m proud of you. I mean it this time.” “My little Luna, how wonderful.” Mom giggles to herself. “Do you think you can rename a hall after me? Or a street?” she gasps, “Anna wanted that and I want to rub it in her face.” “Yes,” I nod. “But what do I do about school and work?” “You’re rich now, you can have it all without working so hard,” she winks, “It’s time to put your smarts on vacation, and enjoy the blessing the moon goddess has given you. See honey, she’s not cursed. A delayed blessing, is still a blessing.” Can I make one request?” “What?” Dad snaps. “I have to pack up in Clinshore,” I say. And by pack up I mean escape. I'll leave Clinshore too. “I’ll send your brother.” “No, let her.” Mom smiles, “You know she doesn’t like people touching her stuff. How long will it take?” Relief floods me. “I have a flight tomorrow afternoon, so if I leave then I will be back within a week. I won’t take everything.” “Sell the rest, and get me a purse.” “Alright, the sooner the better.” Dad sighs, “Kingston’s inauguration is in two weeks, and you have to be here for that.” Over my dead body. “I will.” “I’m so excited,” Mom swoons. “Your wedding should be bigger than Seraphine’s, the Vale family have more money.” “You can get started on the planning,” I say with a wide smile. “You want me to plan?” she gasps, “Sera didn’t let me anywhere near her planner.” “I trust your work,” I smile. She’s an event planner for a living, out of work and tacky. But it’ll keep her busy and give me time to escape freely. With a feigned yawn, I rise from my seat. “I’ll go to bed.” “Yes, yes. You must be exhausted from travelling. Go on.” Goodnight.” “Goodnight Luna,” she laughs. “Honey, doesn’t that sound so lovely? We raised a Luna.” No. I'm nobody's Luna, and by the time she awakens from that deluded dream, I'll be far away from here. Chapter 5 KINGSTON I spent the entire night trying to make sense of my life. Every time I tried to fall asleep, images of Aeliana flooded my mind. Sometime years ago, the choice would have been easy, I wouldn’t have thought twice, but today, the choice weighs heavily on me. My wolf wants Aeliana, I want the pack. Our desires are set on different paths, but to have both I must make the sacrifice. I refuse to let Aeliana ruin everything I’ve worked hard for. She will regret ever coming back to Mooncrest, she should have stayed out of our lives. I’ve been ready since seven AM, and when the clock finally strikes nine, I leave my office. I know Audrey is already out at her Beauty salon by now, and so I skip the crying and whining. Outside, the entire place is buzzing with news of my rejection last night and soon, they’ll be buzzing with the news of my upcoming wedding. I spot my Mom’s car just as I’m pulling out of the parking lot. “Kingston!” She calls out from her window, honking at me. I have no choice but to get out of my car, and meet her at hers. “Mom, what are you doing here so early?” “I came to find out about your decision.” she says, “Aeliana is already in agreement, are you ready to apologise for your outburst last night?” “It wasn’t an—Wait.” I pause, her words only now registering. “Did you say Aeliana agrees?” “Yes,” she grins widely. “Pandora called me this morning. She was particularly happy and wanted to get together since we are to be in-laws.” That doesn’t sound right, Aeliana wouldn’t agree. The eyes that stared at me last night wanted nothing to do with me, they’re the eyes of the girl who cut ties with me, and the rest of the pack. What is she planning? “So what’s your decision?” “I’ll marry her,” I say, and she immediately smiles. I haven’t seen her this happy since my nephew said her name as his first word. “I’m happy it pleases you that your husband is forcing me into this marriage.” “Oh come on, son. Aeliana is a beautiful girl,” she grins wider. “Your father isn’t forcing you into anything, he is helping you. This is what it should be like, you don't need a chosen mate when fate has blessed you with one.” “I wouldn’t say blessed,” I grumble. My problem with Aeliana is beyond her looks. Her looks are not an issue, the girl is stunning. “I would,” she argues. “I mean I was okay with Audrey being your chosen, but there’s just something about her that unsettles me.” Unsettles her? They get along just fine, they've been to dinners without me countless times. “I don’t know, King. Audrey is lovely and pleasant, but you’re her main focus. A Luna needs to be balanced and that Aeliana? I’ve always liked her. She’s been very critical, calm, I can see a bit of myself in her.” “Mom, please stop.” I groan. “If Aeliana wanted to be with me then she would have, there would have been no Audrey, but she tossed me away once she found someone else to fool around with.” Mom frowns, a hand to her chest. “I am sorry you’re grieving your relationship with Audrey, but to be honest with you? I’ve always hoped Aeliana would be your mate, ever since you were little and now it's happening.” I nod. “Again, very happy for you Mother.” Despite the beginning of her statement being sympathetic, she has not once stopped smiling, there’s a shine in her eyes. “I brought a bracelet for you to give her when you apologise, it has our family crest on it.” She says, reaching into her purse. She shuffles forward something and then pulls a pink little box out. Aeliana doesn’t even like pink. “Here, you should give it to her before she leaves.” “Leaves?” I frown. “Yes,” she nods, shoving the box at me when I don’t take it. “Pandora says she will be returning to Clinshore to pack up her belongings. While she will be back in a week, it's best you show her you’re interested now.” A train of thoughts races through my mind, Aeliana accepted my rejection despite my Father’s interruption and— “She’s not coming back.” “What do you mean?” Mom asks, the fear in her voice unmistakable. “She’s running away,” I tell her. “Aeliana won’t return when she leaves.” “You should stop her then,” she blurts out. “No Aeliana, no pack, no Alpha. She has an afternoon flight. I’m meeting Pandora for brunch to discuss a few things.” AELIANA I spend my time looking for a new place to move to, somewhere where they won’t find me. My best bet is the Blood Moon pack, it’s densely populated, welcoming and best of all, in the middle of nowhere. No one would ever look for me there, and I make do with the living conditions. I tutored the Beta’s daughter a year ago in college, and we’re still in touch, she could help me move there while I figure out my next plan. My plan lacks depth, but I will fill those blanks in while I’m on my flight. I sit in the living room in my pyjamas, pretending everything’s alright while Mom gets ready to go out to brunch with Mrs Vale. When she finally leaves the house, I linger a few minutes before I return to my room for my things, and just as I’m leaving, the doorbell sounds. “I’ll get it,” I yell to our house help. I’m thinking mom left something in her haste but when I open the door, I’m met with an unexpected guest. Audrey Cole. Golden girl, spoiled daughter, pageant-winning princess, pack sweetheart, and Alpha’s precious girlfriend. She shoves me inside and enters, uninvited like the house belongs to her idiot boyfriend. “What are you doing here, Audrey?” I sigh, “Seraphine doesn’t live here anymore. Mom isn’t home and—” “I’m here for you, Squeak.” She glares. The use of that degenerating nickname does exactly what she wants it to. It sets me back six years. “I was at breakfast and I heard you’re going to marry my boyfriend?” “You heard wrong.” She laughs, “Did I? Or are you really out of your mind and believing Kingston would ever look twice at you. He’s mine, Squeak so you'd better rid yourself of those delusions, or you’ll only be embarrassing your family again. Don’t deny it now, Sera told me you said yes.” “Sera wasn’t here,” I snap, crossing my arms over my chest. “And I did say yes.” “Oh,” she gasps, “Someone has gotten brave.” “If you think you’re going to touch me? I will throw you, Audrey,” I warn. “I’m not a little girl anymore, and I have nothing to lose. Don’t make me hurt you the last time I see you.” “Last time?” she frowns, “You think you can get rid of me just by stealing my man?” “I’m not stealing anything, he’s yours.” I swallow. “He chose you.” Her lips pull into a wide smile, “Good, you’re aware. So you should leave, get out of our lives Aeliana. No one wants you here, even your parents are happier when you’re gone.” She’s right. “I happen to be happier without everyone too, and you didn't have to come here to warn me about Kingston. I don’t want him, he’s an idiot, and so are you for thinking I’d want him.” “You want him, everyone wants—” she pauses, looking down at the phone in her hand. “You’re lucky I have to give Sera her honeymoon tickets, but just remember, Squeak. I can break you.” I don’t bother responding, she walks away, bouncing down the pathway in her designer flats. It’s amazing how much people can change, but it appears her hatred for me is still intact. Slamming the door shut, I go back upstairs and prepare for my flight. Knowing I’ll never come back again, I take everything I forgot to pack last time. My childhood photo album, the books I inherited from my birth Mom, and while retrieving the books, I stumble on the locked wooden box I kept King’s letters in. I should have burned them when he stopped writing back. My flight is in four hours, and I’m ready with nearly an hour to spare. I put my suitcase in the car, but just as I’m about to drive off, I remember my phone is still upstairs, and so I go back for it. “No awkward fake goodbye,” I mumble to myself, jogging down the stairs. “This is good.” Someone answers me, “What is?” Chapter 6 I shriek in fear, my eyes widening when I see him. He’s here, King is in my house, and I’m still in Mooncrest. F^ck. Double f^ckity f^ck! “Hello, Mate.” He smirks. “Ma’am,” Lisa clears her throat. “Alpha Kingston is here.” She says. Like damn right he is. My chest is still heaving from being startled. “I can see that,” I sigh. Lisa gives me an awkward smile before she leaves the room. I’m left with a glowering Kingston. “What are you doing here?” “A little bird told me you’re leaving and I thought I should swing by and say goodbye,” he deapans. “We are mates after all.” Mates? I scoff, “You rejected me.” King shrugs, “Changed my mind.” “Changed your mind?” I frown, “What the hell is that supposed to mean? You almost broke my wrist last night and—” “Stop playing the victim,” he sneers. “That character is old don’t you agree? And besides, I’m not falling for it, I know who you are.” “Who I am is someone leaving,” I feign a smile. “You will never hear from me again, so goodbye, is that satisfactory? Or would you like for me to kiss your ring as I leave your lordship?” He doesn’t speak, he glares again. I try to leave but his hand wraps around my wrist, and he hauls me back. “You are not going anywhere, Mate. You’re staying right here, and we are getting married.” “Have you lost your mind?” I snap, trying to wiggle free from his grip. “Why would I marry you? You changed your mind, and you have a girlfriend. Marry her instead.” “I would want nothing more than to marry her, it's easy.” He grumbles under his breath, “But if I’m to become Alpha in this lifetime, then I have to marry you. My father is set on the idea for some reason, and it’s a small sacrifice to make for the good of the pack.” Sacrifice. Marry you. He says it like it’s some slur, like he is doing me a favour by taking back his rejection. “I don’t owe you or this pack anything, King. And you’re not going to stop me from leaving. You have no claim on me.” “Do I not?” his head tilts. “No,” I snap. “You don’t even want me, you want to turn me into a pawn for your amusement, but tough luck asshole, it’s not happening. I won’t play this game.” “There’s no game here, Mate.” He says, still not letting go of my hand. I would have disappeared quietly, but it's good that he’s here, I can crush his ego and break this cussed bond. “I Aeliana Hartley of Mooncrest pack reject you, Alpha Kingston Vale as my mate. I reject all bonds and sever all ties. Accept my rejection.” King pauses, twists my hand, and snickers. “No.” He says, pulling me into him. “I Alpha Kingston Vale reject your rejection.” My jaw drops. Can he do that? That’s unheard of, it’s crazy, he is crazy. “You are mine now, Aeliana. The fates have decided, and you’re not going anywhere.” “You can’t stop me,” I kiss my teeth, once again trying to walk past him, but he grabs me by the throat and slams me against the wall. I hardly have time to recollect before he learns into me, sniffing my neck. “And we’re scent matched too.” He says, his tone laced with venom. “How fun.” Fun? No, He hates it. I hate it too but what he does next makes me lose all feeling in my legs. I feel his tongue over my skin, and I freeze. “King, please don’t.” “Don’t what, Aeliana? Claim what fate has forcefully given me?” “You’re hurting me,” I choke out. “Please don't—” the rest of the words die on my tongue. His fangs stick into my neck, and I let out a soundless cry. He doesn’t take his time, he bites so hard that it bleeds, I grab his wrist to stop him but he holds on tight. This doesn’t feel anything like a mate’s mark, it feels like punishment, ownership. His tongue swirls around for a bit, almost kissing the wound and then he stops. My chest tightens. I’m marked. Marked by the man who abandoned me. He releases my throat and I fall to the floor, my heart hammering in my chest. “Hmm,” he says, his voice vibrates through me like never before. Still shaken, I look up at him and he smiles widely. “Try to leave again, and I’ll show you exactly what happens to those who get in my way.” “You can’t do this,” I sob, touching my neck. “It seems pretty done to me.” I can't help the tears that come falling. I can still feel his teeth in my neck, the way his tongue traced the wound until it stopped bleeding. He took away my choice of being marked. “I hate you.” “You think I want this?” He snickers. “Being mated to you is my worst nightmare come alive, but if you dare run from me? Make sure you can hide well because I will hunt you down, Mate.”

I spent five years being the invisible wife — cooking, cleaning, paying every bill while my husband's family treated me like hired help. I funded their $60,000-a-month lifestyle. Raised his teenage sister. And quietly built his career from the shadows. My reward? Divorce papers served at our anniversary dinner. His ex wearing the necklace I designed. His mother already calling her "my real daughter-in-law." They thought they were discarding a simple consultant who married above her station. They had no idea who I really was. I'm Sophia Carter. Heir to a $30 billion empire. Owner of the company where Ethan works. And the woman holding the deed to every luxury they take for granted. I signed those papers without reading a single clause. Not because I'm weak. Because revenge tastes better when they never see it coming. They gave me forty-eight hours to disappear quietly. I gave them forty-eight hours before their entire world collapses. ---

The Moon Goddess gifted my husband of years a second Mate. “I’m sorry. But she’s my fated mate too,” he said and claimed her before all the pack members. From that moment on, my marriage was split into two. Everything I had, I had to share with Christy.— My husband. My home. Even my money. I didn’t make a scene. Because in our world, it was called "the Goddess’ will". I just counted, writing down every single hurt and humiliation in my diary. — And when there was 100, I would just reject him. That day came sooner than I expected. "I have to leave. Christy's heat came early,” he apologized, forgetting I was also in my heat, also the fact that two she-wolves who shared one Mate never went into heat at the same time. “She’s too young to cope with her jealousy,” he said nonchalantly when I revealed her little dirty trick. I sneered. “And I’m mature enough to save myself from this torture. I, Mischa Dean, reject you, Anthony Trenery, as my mate and Alpha. And I cut all ties with your pack.” I hurled my diary at his face and strode out. The little jealous omega could have him all to herself now. And I will have my new life. ***** Mischa had been mated to Alpha Anthony Trenery of the Night Whispers Pack for two decades now. They had a good, strong bond filled with love and happiness even though their lives were more than difficult at times. They’d decided when coming together early in their mate bond to put off having an heir or heirs for their pack. That they needed to focus upon the growing of the pack’s businesses. She ran the accounting company and kept track of all the pack's funds, was vigilant in their spending decisions, because when they’d taken over the pack it was in the red, and the pack owed money to a lot of other packs as well as human banks. Finally, they were completely in the black. No longer did they have loans to pay back to humans or other wolfen packs that had helped them out over the past two decades. They were also now a bigger, stronger and healthier pack, with more reliable businesses to support them. It had taken the two of them a mighty effort of complete devotion to clearing out the debts left behind, that no one knew the former Alpha and Luna had run up, until they’d taken over and seen if for themselves. She’d never have believed it if she’d not seen it with her own two eyes, and they’d sat down and had to talk it out, weighed the pros and cons of disbanding the pack or trying to rebuild it, and become viable and keep the wolves that lived here together instead of scattered all over the place. She’d already had her accounting degree but was fresh out of uni, and going through the funding situation had been hard for her, and even harder for Anthony to hear, being it was his own parents that had sunk the pack into debt and told no one how bad it was. But in the end they’d opted to try and save the pack, and although it had been difficult for them to do. They’d worked their way through the hardship and survived it. Tonight was the very first mating ball to be held by them since taking over. They simply just couldn’t afford to waste pack funds on it. The pack members had all understood and been allowed to go off to other packs of their own accord for mating balls if they wished over those years. Tonight was an event they’d planned together, how they’d be holding mating balls in the future as well. Only two a year, they were costly and though their pack was in the black now, they didn’t want to use a lot of funds on mating balls at this time, they would set more up as the years past when they had more available funds to do so. It was a simple sit-down dinner, where everyone came dressed in smart casual clothing and could mingle at will with the other packs. Any mating prior to the full moon had to be out of sight in one or another's accommodation, so there would be fewer issues for pairs scenting each other out. She stood as always next to Anthony to greet the arriving Alphas. Only one pack was unknown to them, but it came through a known affiliated pack. They were said to be safe and wouldn’t cause them any issues. She and Anthony were hoping for some pairing up tonight, and she smiled at the comments from their Allied Alphas about finally, they were holding a mating ball, and those that knew the true hardship she and Anthony had been through, over the last two decades smiled and congratulated them on beating the odds, and them now having a prosperous pack. She was happy with how things were going and sat down to eat her meal, smiled and chatted with the other Alphas at the table. Her own Mate, Anthony, smiled at her as he always did. What she’d not seen coming was as the moon set her own Alpha Mate of 20 years, nostrils flaring and him breathing in all deeply; as he scented out a second Mate. Her eyes widened, as she watched him just stand up and leave the table, to go and hunt the one he scented. Many eyes were on him, they all knew she was his Goddess-Gifted Mate. They were the same age and scented each other out at 19, inside this very room the full moon after he’d come home from Alpha College. Mischa was more than shocked as she watched Anthony step right up to she-wolf and just reach out and touch her face all soft and lovingly. She’d braced herself to feel the pains of betrayal, right there in front of all their allies, and she’d even felt Paul, her Gamma’s hand on her arm, as he also readied himself to try and ease the pain they all thought she was going to feel. She had not stood up or even objected to Anthony’s scenting of a second Mate, wouldn’t protest against it even though a part of her wanted to. This was the will of their Goddess, that he was getting a second Mate, and here inside this pack they believed one should accept their Goddess-Gifted Mate. Anthony’s hand cupped that she-wolf’s face, and she felt absolutely nothing, not a single pain of betrayal at all. Paul frowned a little, and she sighed with relief and murmured. “Is the will of Selena, so she grants me no pain.” Though a part of her was unhappy about her loyal, loving Alpha Mate now having a new and likely much younger Mate on his arm. She knew that he wasn’t going to reject her, she’d been gifted to him by Selena, so of course, he would accept that she-wolf. She gently removed Paul’s hand from her arm. “It’s fine
is meant to be.” She’d stated softly, all she could do was accept it. If it was a lie or some sort of magic to trick him, she'd have felt the pains of betrayal, but there were none. So she just sat there and watched as Anthony lay his verbal claim upon that she-wolf, for all in this room to hear without any hesitation. “My pack, I have been blessed by Selena herself, with a second Mate and Luna,” he'd announced, and she’d even heard the pride in his voice as he’d spoken. He was very happy with this. Had yet to even look at Mischa regarding him getting a second Mate; to see what she thought of it. She’d been eclipsed by a new Mate and Luna for the pack in a heartbeat. He was supposed to love and cherish only her, but now he had someone else to love and cherish, a she-wolf that barely looked old enough to be here at this mating ball. Likely only just turned 18 a moon or two back, she thought absently to herself. That girl's smile faulted instantly at Anthony’s words of her being his second Mate and Luna, and her eyes had moved around the room to look right at her. Mischa had nodded her head ever so slightly to the girl. Who’d turned back to Anthony and bowed her head to him, stated in softly spoken words, “I am happy, Alpha, and will work alongside your first Mate, to learn from her to be your perfect Luna.” Anthony had laughed. “Mischa is loving and kind and will be a good friend and confidante to you, as well as to teach you all that is needed and the three of us will be truly happy together.” Then he had walked that she-wolf over to the table she was sitting at, and smiled at Mischa “Sweetheart, I was blessed by Selena once more. This is Christy.” He introduced the girl to her. She felt many eyes upon her from not only at this table but from the room. It was a very unusual set of circumstances to be seen. She did know that when one wolf got gifted two Mates it was usually at the same time, not 20 years apart. That the one wolf, if his or her Mates were from different packs, they would have to choose one over the other. But Anthony was an Alpha Wolf, and he reigned over this pack so he could choose to have both of them as his Mates, because they’d all live here. This was what he was doing. He’d not even thought about it, not even so much as taken Mischa's thoughts into account about him having a new Mate. No, he’d just accepted Christy and announced her right away, expecting Mischa to just accept it and that was the end of it. Mischa wasn’t about to throw a fit or even argue it there was no point; he’d made his decision already. The Goddess had blessed him was how he’d put it. She wasn’t that kind of person, arguments were only to be had if she could win the verbal battle, which she knew she couldn’t right this very minute. It was also not her place to tell him who he could or couldn’t be mated to, if he was gifted a second Mate. It was entirely up to him to accept or reject that she-wolf. “Hello, Christy.” Mischa greeted his new Mate, and she saw the way that she-wolf instantly moved closer to Anthony and hugged into him. “It’s the will of the Goddess, please Luna don’t ask him to reject me,” Christy stated with a slight tremble to her soft voice. Mischa raised an eyebrow at her “I wouldn’t dare to. If Anthony accepts you, then so do I,” she countered the girls between the line's accusation. She understood in that one moment this she-wolf was out to cause trouble, and wanted Anthony to see Mischa was unreasonable, and appear to be unwilling to accept her as a second Luna to this pack. Mischa wouldn’t play that game, her eyes moved to Anthony, and he was frowning down at Christy, he wasn’t what she would call a stupid man, and had also picked up on there was no greeting from Christy to Mischa, just an unspoken accusation that Mischa would want to tear them apart. “Christy, what was that? Mischa would never come between us, and you just accuse her of it right away. I brought you over here just to say hello,” he stated and removed her hand from his arm. Mischa refused to allow the smile that wanted to touch her face to reach it as she heard the disappointment in Anthony’s voice about what he was seeing and hearing. She watched as Christy kind of looked up at him in surprise, that he would not only defend his current Mate and Luna, but step away from Christy herself, to look down at her in disapproval. This she-wolf had thought Anthony would come to her defense instantly, and be drawn into her innocence, and I’m afraid of your first Mate, act. That she was so clearly putting on for all in this room to see. She didn’t know him at all, and had played that hand way too soon, but Mischa now understood herself this was going to be something Christy would do all the time. She was already scheming inside her mind on how to push out a Luna and Mate of 20 years, so she could be the only Mate and Luna to this, her and Anthony’s hard earned pack. II CH 2 Mischa didn’t think this she-wolf's schemes would work on Anthony. He was not only level-headed, but they had grown up here inside this pack together, and he knew everything about her, including her own nature. That she would never harm anyone without due cause, that she certainly wouldn’t harm his other Mate. That she wouldn’t get in between them or try and stop them from spending time together. He knew that she also believed in the will of the Goddess. So, accepting that he’d been gifted a second Mate, was actually what she would do even if she was unhappy about it, she’d come to terms with it and accept it. She wouldn’t fight against it or try to make him choose between them. This new Mate of his, Christy, should have taken the time to solidify her bond with Anthony, be marked and mated before trying anything stupid like this. That would see her pitted up against his first Luna and Mate of 20 years. She knew nothing about either of them, or their temperaments. She should have learned that before scheming. “I
I’m sorry. I was just nervous that she’d want to harm me
You’re her Mate first and Luna’s are
Possessive.” Christy tried to explain her prior statement. “As are Alphas,” Mischa stated right back. “Here inside the Night Whispers pack, a Mate is a Mate. If I were to get a second Mate, Anthony would accept it as I am of him being gifted you, Christy. Don’t fear me, I’m happy to have a fellow Luna to share the duties of running this pack with.” She smiled at her. Anthony chuckled softly and looked at Mischa. “I’d be very jealous, sweetheart, of another getting to have you, but
” he took a breath in “I would accept it, as the will of our Goddess, Selena.” Mischa smiled right at him. “I know darling.” She stated, “Such a good, kind, loving and loyal Mate you’ve always been.” She’d reached out and put her hand in his, and he’d raised it right to his lips and kissed the back of it. His way of showing his gratitude for her gracious acceptance of his new Mate. Christy, however, gasped and tears welled up in her eyes as she watched the display of affection between them. “You don’t want me,” she sobbed, and then was just gone, running off, away from them through the crowded ballroom. Anthony blinked in complete shock and stood there staring after her, he’d not once said he didn’t want her, he’d even claimed her for all to hear. It wasn’t expected that those words would come from her, let alone for her to run away. He looked to her hand and then to her and Mischa shook her head. “She felt no pains of betrayal, because I felt none when you touched her.” she told him what she knew to be the truth. “Sweetheart, I must go and
” he trailed off as he looked at her a little uncertain for the first time. “Of course, I understand Anthony, go and find your second Mate. She appears young and very...” She trailed off. Who the h*ll knew, she couldn’t say scheming to him. She let go of his hand and waved him off to go after the girl. Then she just sat back down in her seat and picked up her wine glass and took a controlled sip from it. She wanted to down the entire glass but would not let that be seen by all in this room. The Alphas at her table were looking at her with knowing looks. She just nodded, acknowledging that it hadn’t escaped their attention that this new Mate of Anthony’s was trying to manipulate things before she was even Marked and Mated. She and Christy had not scented each other out, and therefore would have to share their Mate’s attention between them, and no Mate wanted to share with another. Christy’s own Alpha sighed from his seat at the table. “My apologies, Luna, that one is new to my pack; her mother mated into mine just two moons back. I don’t know her well, she appeared pleasant to me.” “Hmm, she is how old?” Mischa asked. “Turned 18 inside my pack,” he answered her. “Hmm, very young. Me not so much. She is getting a Mate that already has a Mate, something I’m guessing can bring out many different sides to a she-wolf, that is expecting to suddenly become a Luna, only to find out her Mate already has a Luna. “Don’t concern yourself with it too much. Anthony won’t stand for scheming games, is level-headed, he will likely only mark and mate her if she is seen to be genuinely accepting of the three-way mate bond. She and I didn’t scent each other out, are not Mate’s that complicates things a bit, I dare say. “She’ll have to willingly accept that she has to share him with me. He is not about to reject me, his Mate and Luna of 20 years for her
one he doesn’t know and is currently acting like a petulant, jealous child for all to see. Something I don’t and won’t do. “He’ll want to have both of us as his Mates. I do know this, and if young Christy isn’t willing to even try to accept this, then he’ll likely reject her for her not accepting the will of the Goddess.” She told him, “I’m patient and will wait and see what happens.” She sipped her wine once more. “You seem to be handling it well, at ease with all this going on around you, Luna, when most would be at least upset,” he stated. “I’m not overly happy about it, Alpha, but what can I do about it? It’s not for me to make Anthony’s decisions for him. Only Anthony can choose to accept or reject Christy. I felt no pains of betrayal, so it is likely meant to be, and I am willing to accept what it is that Selena has planned for this pack,” she stated simply. She would not be the one in this three-way mate bond, which she was certain was about to happen, to pitch a fit and act as if she couldn’t handle it. This may be out of her control, but she could handle it with grace and stay calm in the face of things she didn’t like or truly know how to handle, until she found a way to do so. That was something she’d learned long ago. Panicking about the unknown didn’t help you resolve the issue before you. There had been a lot of panic at times trying to rebuild and bring this pack back to stability, and she’d overcome it all, one thing at a time. This was going to be just like that, she supposed. She would likely find a way to deal with Christy’s schemes if Anthony marked and mated her, if that she-wolf continued to try and use that innocent act, and wouldn’t give up on trying to push her out of Anthony’s life. There was at present nothing else she could do at this point, only sit and wait on the outcome of the night was all. She did wonder though if Christy was smart enough to talk her way out of being seen as petty and jealous just now. None had threatened her, and Anthony hadn’t once voiced he didn’t want her, so her act was all going to have to be apologized for, and she was going to have to explain to him why she responded that way, when Mischa had not once presented herself as a threat, had in fact welcomed her. That she’d run off after seeing affection go between herself and Anthony, something that all fully bonded pairs did, something that she-wolf would also have to get used to seeing as well. “Filled with she-wolf jealousy is my bet, and that, Luna Mischa, is never a good thing,” Alpha Nicholas stated as he leaned back in his chair. “It won’t end well if she remains the same. Been on the receiving end of that myself.” She nodded, she knew his tale; this pack had been allied to his while he’d been trying to claim his Luna, Lucinda. “Mm, I’m not so young as she is, or immature either. I can handle myself and most situations in a calm and rational manner, unlike her, it seems.” She stated with a half-smile and sipped her wine, then motioned for it to be refilled once more. “That I dare say will be the very difference between the two of you,” Nicholas nodded. “If you need a break from what I foresee as trouble brewing, come on down to the Rising Blue Lotus, for a well-earned rest. Braidy’s Mate just opened up a day spa on the edge of the pack. I’m certain she and her team can massage away or soak away any tension.” She smiled at him. “I may just take you up on that, Nicholas.” “It would be my pleasure, Luna Mischa.” He’d tipped his glass to her and they’d both sipped their wine. She’d sat there and presided over the mating ball for the rest of the night. She’d waited for Anthony to come back and tell her what he was going to do, give her an explanation as to Christy’s attitude, but it had not come at all. She’d attempted to connect with him just once, just after 10pm and shut it down very quickly felt that he was mating out there, so he’d claimed that girl and was marking and mating her. She’d mentioned it to his unit, and they’d all kind of just stared at her as if to say 'are you kidding?' She’d just nodded, there was nothing she could do about it. The Mate Bond had either gotten him or Christy had played her sweet and innocent act, come up with some plausible reason as to why she had been like that, and then likely turned on the charm and he and his wolf had been enticed into mating her and claiming her officially. Yet again, he’d done that without consulting her or even informing her that he would be doing that tonight. She’d gone to bed alone, walked up to the Alpha Suite, his unit all there with her, and she’d sighed, “I hate to be a bother, but is it possible one of you could stay here until Anthony comes back? I don’t want that she-wolf in my suite. Until all things have been discussed properly, he’ll have to understand, considering he didn’t discuss anything with me prior to this and sitting down and sorting out how this is going to work. “Please inform Anthony and his new Mate, that they can stay in the Luna Suite for the night. I’m happy he got a Mate but unhappy he has gone a head and done things without a proper discussion first. I don’t want to wake up to the sound of my Mate having sΔx with his other Mate inside my suite.” They all just nodded and Kendrick, their Beta, had stated, “I’ll wait up for him. Best that comes from me. If he doesn’t understand and opts to try and bring her inside, what do you want, Mischa?” “Tell him to respect my wishes. It's just one night, and he can spend that night curled up with his new Mate in the Luna Suite. It’s as plush as his own. If he opts not to respect my wishes for even one night, I guess I know exactly where I’ll stand with him and his new Mate.” III CH 3 Mischa had accepted the fact that he had a second Mate, and he’d hugged her the following day after claiming Christy, told Mischa he loved her so very much, even more for her accepting Christy into their Mate bond. She’d only had one request regarding their three-person mate bond, where she and Christy shared only him between them. Which had been that Christy reside in the Luna Suite, that was her designated suite, and Mischa remained in the Alpha Suite. She had been his Mate and Luna for 20 years, and had earned the right to stay in there. He’d looked at Christy, and she’d nodded and stated, "I'm okay with that." Neither she nor Christy had wanted to live in the same suite as each other, because they weren’t mated to each other. Both saw it as standard for a Mate bond like this, for there to be separate rooms. Anthony had been happy about them agreeing to this and he'd agreed as well. The one being shared also got to choose where and who they slept with on a nightly basis. She’d told him at Christy’s frown, as she’d had to watch him pull Mischa on to his lap, in his office that morning. After being away from her for the entire night, he wanted to hold her and be close to her, tell her he’d missed her. Christy hadn’t liked seeing that at all, and she had stated, “I think there should be a schedule to make it fair to both of us, like me, say Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday and you take the alternate days.” She’d not even used Mischa’s name. Misha had leaned into Anthony and hugged him, told him she’d missed him too, as she'd watched Christy's reaction to it, then stated, “I don’t think we should put constraints on our Mate like that, and I think Anthony can pick and choose each and every night who he wants to be with, as is his right.” She’d also not missed that Christy had opted to give herself four nights a week and Mischa only three. Right off the bat, this she-wolf was trying to take control of their mate bond. She had some balls, that was for sure. Anthony, on the other hand had, had a better idea. “I’ll rotate days between you both. I think that is fair, so one night with you Christy, then one night with Mischa, on a continually rotating basis. That way, each of you gets a four-night week and a three-night week, exactly half of each month. Otherwise, one of you will get 16 days and the other only 12; that is not fair.” He’d also promised her he’d never bed Christy in their suite, especially their bed, and then, at Christy’s pout, he’d laid down the same rule for her, that he’d never bed Misha in Christy’s suite or bed; again making it fair. He’d told Christy he’d open up a few walls and create her a proper suite just like his and Mischa’s for when they had pups. Misha hadn’t objected, just nodded and told him and Christy that was a good idea. He had been trying, she knew, to keep both of them happy, trying to work this new three-person mate bond out in a way that suited them all. “We’re newly mated,” Christy had murmured, “and you two have been mated for decades. I want a little more time with you to bond properly.” “You’ll go into heat in a week and get to have him all to yourself for 3 to 7 days,” Mischa commented casually. “You’ll interrupt it.” Christy had muttered. “I will not. I have no interest in separating you from Anthony at all. You should, however, come over here and let him initiate you. He’s not done that yet.” Mischa had stood up and even picked up the pack blade for him and held it out to him, showing him she was accepting of everything. Only now a year and a half later, she was not in the Alpha Suite, nor was she in the Luna Suite. She’d moved herself out of the Alpha Suite six months ago when she’d walked into it and pushed into her bedroom to find Anthony and Christy having sΔx in her and Anthony’s bed. She’d come to a stand still at the sight of them and then her anger got the better of her. She and her wolf Laud had grated out his name for him to hear their anger at what was going on in their bed. Something he’d promised would never happen. Only to have him snarl at her to get the hll out of his bedroom, his aura had rolled at her even before he’d turned to see who it was. Christy had looked right at her and smirked as if to say 'you know you can’t beat me.' “Fine,” had been the only word that had come from her. She was his equal and could in fact ignore his aura, but had turned and walked from the suite, left at his order and then had moved herself into a suite down the hall, across from the Delta’s suite. She’d had omegas go in and collect all her belongings when she’d felt him leave that suite, not just her clothes, everything that was hers and moved, had them set up in her new room down the hall. They’d not understood it, why she was moving out of the Alpha Suite, when she’d lived in there for the past two decades, and for the first time since Christy had come into this pack and started eclipsing her position, she’d not cared to keep quite as to why she was moving out. Told her omegas that the Alpha had ordered her to get out of the suite. It was in fact true he had done so. That hadn’t gone down so well with Anthony when he’d realized she’d actually moved out of the suite, and not just left it to come back later when she’d calmed down. He’d thought she was just angry about him breaking his promise, and so he had opted to sleep in Christy’s suite that night. He had left her be, because he actually understood he was in the wrong, and she had a right to be angry. But what he’d not realized until the following evening, when he’d gone to the Alpha Suite to shower and change, probably apologize for his mistake. That her side of the closet was empty, not a single thing was left in there of her, not even her jewelry. That she had in fact moved out completely, and he’d had to go looking for her, he hadn’t seen her all day either. She’d opted to work from her new suite because she wasn’t in any mood to deal with a smug Christy, or her own Mate who had broken his one promise to her. He’d found her sitting in that suite across from Derek's with many of her things setup in there around her. She’d already made herself comfortable in there. He’d been completely shocked at the realization that she’d taken more than just her clothes, but her trinkets and throw rugs, her favorite vase and many of the books that were in the study, they’d shared in that suite. He’d asked her exactly what was going on, and she’d casually closed the book she’d been sitting documenting in, her Luna’s Diary, and looked at him, his worried expression, as he’d sat down on the lounge next to her. She’d stated simply, “You broke your promise and ordered me to get out of your suite. I did exactly what you wanted.” He’d sighed at her and murmured, “That’s not what I meant, sweetheart, I’m sorry for what happened. Christy was upset about never having seen inside the Alpha Suite
she just wanted to see what it looked like, she’s only ever been in the Luna Suite, doesn’t feel as if I truly see her as my Luna, because she’s never even walked through the door and seen inside the Alpha’s Suite.” He’d sighed heavily. “I saw no harm in her walking through it and looking around. She was so happy to just be shown the suite, and she kissed me to say thank you for allowing her to see where I lived when not with her and, well
we just got carried away is all, and it resulted in sx. It wasn’t intentional,” he told her. Maybe not on his part, but it had clearly been on Christy’s part. “In our bed.” Had been Mischa’s words, she could read between the lines, Christy had gotten Anthony to take her into their bedroom, a place she was never allowed to go unless Mischa invited her personally. Just like Mischa wasn’t allowed in Christy’s bedroom. So, once again, she’d been able to make Anthony believe she was innocent in them fking on Mischa’s bed, and he’d bought it. She had gotten him to take her into that room to help her feel more like his Luna, when he’d already given her a fully remodeled suite. He was still blind to her deceptions. Only this time, Christy had used sx to get it past him. She knew exactly what that she-wolf was doing. She’d also not missed in his relaying of what had happened that it had been Christy who had kissed him and gotten him all worked up, she'd done it on purpose, and she knew that, from that one look on Christy’s face, that he’d not seen. She didn’t really understand the she-wolf. It wasn’t like Anthony ignored her, or didn’t give her exactly what she wanted. Her Luna Suite was now as large and plush as the Alpha Suite was, there was room for them to start their family. It was now a four-bedroom suite. She’d gotten her Mate and the title of Luna as well, had a desk in the Luna’s office, was allowed to give Luna Blessings and she spent on a daily basis more time with Anthony than Mischa did. “Well, Anthony, she can now have what she wants, both the Alpha and Luna suites, can’t she! Seeing as she got you to break your promise to me and so easily.” “Don’t be like that Mischa, it won’t happen again,” he’d sighed. “You’re right, it won’t.” she’d nodded, because she would never set foot in the Alpha Suite again. “You ordered I get out, I had no choice but to do as you ordered, you are the Alpha.” She told him and watched his eyes widen at her very words. He was racking his brain trying to recall if he’d made it an order or not. She knew it wasn’t for her to move out, just to leave the room. But at that moment it could well have been for all he knew. He and his wolf Shade might not even know they’d done that in that moment, where they were consumed with the need to mate Christy. “I take it back.” He’d huffed after a full minute of thought. “Rescind it. If I did that, I can’t say for certain if I did or not.” “No need. I now understand my place, Anthony. Your new and younger Mate is the one you want to please. I’ll step aside for her. She can move into the actual Alpha Suite. I’ll stay here as is my place.” She’d not been trying to make him feel guilty, she’d simply made the decision to not go back to his suite was all, it was now tainted by that she-wolf, so he could have it all to himself or move that she-wolf in there. “Your place is beside me, Mischa, as it will always be,” he’d stated. “Hmm” had been her only reaction because she wondered just how long it would be before Christy got the Luna’s office all to herself and had Mischa moved out of it. Christy was currently still undergoing Luna Training, but the moment it was over. Mischa could see Christy was going to push her from it. She wasn’t exactly sure how yet, but she was willing to bet that she-wolf was plotting how already. Just couldn’t do it until she’d actually finished her training was all. IV CH 4 She was just documenting everything that happened in her personal Luna’s Diary, that was casually sitting closed on her lap right that minute; all of Christy’s behavior. It was kind of like a Luna’s Diary, she supposed. Only this one was filled with all the times Christy had manipulated Anthony, pouted or put on a show of waterworks, complained she was just insecure, intimidated by Mischa, or didn’t think she could ever measure up to his first Mate. All the things that saw Anthony wanting to comfort Christy about and how he did that; taking her out shopping or to dinner, to make her feel loved and cherished and to make it up to her, so she'd feel secure in her position as his second Mate. Though Christy had learned not to insult her directly, that brought about full annoyance in Anthony towards her, regardless of if Christy did it with a few tears or indirectly. Which she had a few times in the beginning when she had been more openly trying to separate them so she could spend more time with Anthony then Mischa could; she’d learned the hard way not to do that. Anthony wouldn’t stand for Christy insulting Mischa, and he would come to her defense, because not once had Mischa ever insulted Christy; she wasn’t like that. Wasn’t one to be mean or cruel on purpose. Even now here in this situation, Christy and Anthony’s having sΔx in her bed, she’d not blamed Christy; she hadn’t said anything other than he’d broken his promise to her. Anthony would demand

He Abandoned Our Daughter, So I Made Him Believe She Died

At the party Julian threw to welcome his “son,” I had a gift delivered. Inside were the final divorce decree, a restraining order, and a box. The box held my daughter’s cut-off NICU bracelet and a bloodstained baby blanket. He probably thought I’d lost my mind. But he had forced my hand. In the third year of our marriage, I was pregnant with our daughter. And he turned around and legally acknowledged another woman’s child as his own. When I caught him, all he said was, “It’s temporary. For the insurance.” I believed him. My reward was watching him carry another woman’s son into an ambulance, leaving me—his bleeding wife—to be questioned by the police. In that moment, I knew we were over. I gave birth to our daughter alone. She fought for her life in the NICU while her father ran himself ragged for someone else's child. He even sent me a voice message: if anything happened to that other child, he would never forgive me. Fine. He’d cost me my husband and nearly my daughter. So I would make him “kill” his own flesh and blood with his own hands. Let him taste what it felt like to lose the one person closest to him. He would discover the truth—that Theo wasn't his child at all. He would come looking for me, a man unhinged. But he would never know that my daughter, Lily, was alive and well. And that she had already taken my last name. She would never be a Price. ... When I returned home from the hospital, the sprawling Price mansion in the Boston suburbs was filled with the clinking of celebratory champagne flutes. My husband, Julian Price, had just legally become the father of another woman’s child. I had watched him sign his name on the acknowledgment of paternity, and every stroke of his pen felt like it was carved into my heart. Sloane Reed, his so-called old flame, clutched a baby boy named Theo and wept pitifully. To soothe her, Julian told me to “stop making a scene.” He’d come home ah......

The moment my husband of three years looked me in the eyes at his birthday gala and said "I want a divorce, Elara—I never loved you," six hundred guests raised their champagne glasses and cheered. His mother started the applause. I didn't cry. I lifted my glass right back. Because what no one in that glittering ballroom knew—not my husband, not his family, not the supermodel hanging off his arm like a designer accessory—was that the "poor charity bride" they'd spent three years humiliating was about to become the one person who could destroy them all. But that came later. First, the humiliation. "Sign the papers." Damien Ashford set the divorce agreement on the table between us, right next to the seven-tier cake with our initials still in gold. Three years of marriage, and he'd had the papers drafted before the frosting dried. "Take the settlement and disappear, Elara. Quietly. Like the nobody you were before my family gave you a name." The settlement. I'd already seen it. Two hundred thousand dollars to walk away from a man whose family was worth forty-seven billion. Not a payoff. An insult. A price tag on how little I'd mattered. "Sign it," his mother Victoria hissed from behind him, diamonds glittering at her throat like fangs. "Before I have security escort you out of my house." Her house. The Ashford Estate. The place I'd managed, staffed, redesigned, and turned from a crumbling monument to old money into the most photographed private residence in the country. I'd done it all—silently, perfectly, invisibly—because that was the role they'd assigned me: the decorative nobody who made everything beautiful and never took credit. I looked at the papers. Then at Damien's cold, perfect face—the face I'd loved since I was nineteen, the face that had whispered "you're everything" the night he proposed and "you're nothing" every day since. Then at Madeleine Laurent. The supermodel. The replacement. Four months pregnant, according to the tabloids I wasn't supposed to see. "Sign it, Elara." Damien's voice hardened. "Don't make this ugly." I picked up the pen. Six hundred people watched me sign away three years of my life for the price of a mid-range sedan. And then I did the one thing none of them expected. I smiled. "Congratulations, Damien." I set the pen down. "You just signed away the only person who knew your family's books were cooked. All forty-seven billion dollars of them." The room went silent. Victoria's champagne glass shattered on the marble floor. "What did you just say?" Damien whispered. I picked up my clutch—the one expensive thing I'd bought with my own money—and walked toward the door. "I said enjoy your party." I didn't look back. "And enjoy the audit." Behind me, in the silence I'd detonated, my phone buzzed with a notification I'd been waiting three years to receive. SEC Filing Confirmation: Whistleblower Report #47291-E. Status: ACCEPTED. I stepped into the night, and for the first time in three years, I could breathe. The girl they'd thrown away had just lit the match. Now she was going to watch the empire burn.
