You wonder why your lower back hurts... But your program never trained your thoracic spine the way it was designed to move. Strength training is the foundation for long-term health. Your program should build muscle. It should make you stronger. But on its own, it’s not enough. If all you do is lift in straight lines and treat mobility as something separate, only after your hips, shoulders, or lower back start hurting, you’re missing how the body actually works. The thoracic spine isn’t just there to stay “stable.” It’s built to rotate, extend, flex, and side bend. When the thoracic spine is stiff, the body still needs to create movement somewhere. That “somewhere” is often the lumbar spine - your lower back. Add lifting or repetitive training on top of this, and you may reinforce the compensation instead of addressing the driver. That’s why the cycle looks familiar: Train hard → Get tight → Feel pain → Do rehab → Repeat Every few months Not because strength training is the problem, but because your program is incomplete. Strength should be the foundation. But thoracic mobility in all planes should be built into your program, not added later in rehab. #thoracicmobility #lowerbackpain #strengthtraining
